Deep Water - Great Blue Heron
12" x 18.75" Oil On Hardboard
Great Blue Herons are such a fascinating bird with their long “S” shaped neck while flying or poised like a statue waiting for prey. For this oil painting, I wanted to portray the Great Blue Heron motionless, almost statue like with calm, slightly moving water. I was surprised to see that they wade belly deep, as they are usually seen wading in shallow water along marshes, lakes and rivers. They are primarily a fish eater, although they will search out rodents and other animals in the winter. They are really a majestic sight to see and watch.
