Yosemite National Park is known to have an abundance of black bears and can be seen in the valley along the Merced River.
With this oil painting I wanted to show the beauty of the valley along the Merced River with El Capitan shrouded in fog and the black bear with freedom to roam.
Black bears are usually solitary animals, except for a sow with cubs and spend most of their time from spring to fall forging for food. At the time of the pandemic in 2020, Yosemite National Park was closed to the public and the rangers stated that the "bears seem to be having a party" since there was no influx of people.
