Even though this lynx kitten is partially concealed it is unafraid of what lies beyond the golden-brown grass. All of the main elements of this small 6 x 6-inch painting are rendered using a variety of textures, the tree has bold thick lines compared to the long smooth lines of the grass and the tiny delicate layered brush strokes that form the kitten's soft fur. The angle of the foreground shadow helps to emphasize the direction of the sun's rays on the kitten and the viewer is drawn directly to the little lynx's fearless eyes.
