Tracks in the snow lead to this Canadian Lynx's unseen prey, his stare is intense as he readies to spring into action. In the foreground small clusters of browning grass jut out of the snow-covered ground and in the middle ground, leafless brushes have limbs that have been dusted white with newly fallen snow.


The technique I used for creating the thick coat of this beautiful Lynx required that I apply many layers of fine brush strokes. There are variegated grey colors on his body with a rust color on his tail and back legs, he has delicate white markings on the corner of his eyes and muzzle and black at the tip of his tail and ear tuffs.

As I photographed this Lynx's methodical movements as he was stalking I just knew I had to create a painting putting him in a snow scene with rabbit tracks in the snow.
